The competition in the smart ring has been getting intense, especially with Samsung pivoting in the direction of its first smart ring, the Galaxy Ring. Oura has been in the industry for a while and made its mark for its wearable being comfortable to wear and for the health tracking it offers. Even before Galaxy Ring was launched, Samsung secured a legal ruling to ensure Oura does not take on copyright infringement. Oura however, remains determined to maintain its position and take on Samsung’s smart ring and now has announced the fourth-generation Oura Ring.

Oura announced its Oura Ring 4 today to take on Samsung’s Galaxy Ring with a sleeker build and Smart Sensing feature

Oura has been working on bringing its next-generation smart ring for a while, and with Samsung entering the market, it has posed an even greater challenge for Oura in terms of growing competition. The company has put in more vigorous efforts to launch the wearable soon. After spending some time on the development, the company is finally introducing its Oura Ring 4 to take on the Galaxy Ring.

Oura Ring titanium lining

Oura Ring 4 makes some significant hardware updates and design improvements. The company has opted for a sleeker build this time around, with the sensor domes reduced on the inside, giving the design a more refined look. Since it now has a complete titanium lining, the durability is better, as it does not slip anymore and is smoother to wear for a longer duration.

The new Oura Ring is also being offered in more sizes now, ranging from 4 to 15, and caters to a wider user base by ensuring the fit is better and more comfortable. The company has only made the Oura Ring 4 available in one style option, and that is the all-rounded Horizon style, contrary to the previous generation that offered the Heritage option as well. The smart ring is available in varied finishes, including Silver, Stealth, Brushed Silver, Black, Gold, and Rose Gold, and users have six different options to choose from.

Oura Ring 4 has been introduced with Smart Sensing feature

The fourth generation Oura Ring is packed with a new Smart Sensing capability that gives a more enhanced health tracking experience with the help of advanced sensors and better algorithms. The Oura Ring 3 relied on eight signal paths for collecting data, but the next smart ring can use up to 18 signal paths for gathering more accurate and detailed information, allowing for the tracking to be more precise. The Smart Sensing feature would bring massive measurement improvements and resolve data and information gaps.

Oura has redesigned its app to have the health tracking more sorted by making it available in three broad categories: Vitals, My Health, and Today. It has also incorporated some new features into its app, including reproductive health, stress tracking, and heart health monitoring, and also added an experimental Labs beta program. Oura Ring 4 has now an upgraded Daytime Stress metric that will automatically detect activities for about 40 varied activities.

Oura Ring 4 is priced at $349 for the Silver and Stealth finishing and $399 for Brushed Silver and Black. The most premium models are Gold and Rose Gold, available for $499. Oura Ring 4 is available now for pre-order from ouraring.com and major retailers such as Best Buy, Amazon, and Target. The wearable will start shipping on October 15, and users who want to reap the benefits of the full set of features will have to get the Oura membership.
